Vida nocturna en Tulum

Tulum is best known for it’s eco-chic atmosphere and eclectic vibe. Nestled between the Caribbean waters and the tropical jungle, Tulum is a place where people come to relax, immerse themselves in the Mayan culture, venture into nature and also enjoy a vibrant and multicultural nightlife style with plenty of options to choose from.

In Tulum you won’t find discotheques and large crowds, instead, you will discover small and shabby-chic establishments where to dine, chill and dance under the stars. Bar hopping is an option as many restaurants and bars are walking distance (in town and by the beach) and you can also feel free to wear whatever you want as all dress codes apply.

If you decide to go out and party, you must know there are two options: the downtown area and the hotel zone on the beach, each with their own distinct flavor and atmosphere.

Hotel strip on the beach:

Papaya Playa Project

The most famous spot in Tulum is Papaya Playa Project (PPP). Located just at the beginning of the main hotel strip, you will find it while driving south towards the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. It is known for its delicious restaurant, rustic architecture and for their famous weekend parties, especially for their legendary Saturday full moon parties where models, artists and trendy tourists pack the scene in order to dance to the beat of famous guest DJ’s from all over the world as well as resident DJ’s from Papaya Playa.

While you are there, go down the road and take a look at IK Lab, Guggenheim’s contemporary art gallery whose architecture is a real work of art.

Casa Jaguar: This is an open-air restaurant, built in the middle of the jungle and has become very popular among tourists and locals.

An eco-minimalistic concept, where their many travels around Mexico, Europe and Asia have influenced their original recipes with an exquisite fusion of ingredients, textures and flavors. Their emblematic cocktails mix well with the vibrant live band rhythms.

“La Zebra” Restaurant & Bar: This location offers a live music salsa group and salsa dancing lessons on their gorgeous wooden deck by the beach. Their drinks are prepared by a British master mixologist and their menu has an essential Mexican touch.

“Ziggy’s” Restaurant and beach club: beachfront option to start off your evening with signature drinks served at the swing bar. Live music on the beach every night from 7 to 9 pm followed by moonlit dinners. The best brands of tequila and mezcal are mixed with creativity and attention to beauty.

DOWNTOWN AREA, better know as “El pueblo”:

At night, Tulum pueblo comes alive with restaurants, bars, street side bistros and local food restaurants offering everything from tacos to tortellini, from cold Mexican beers to fine mixology. There are many artisan boutiques in town as well as local fashion shops that sell unique beach wear, handcrafts, paintings, silver jewelry and jade pieces.

BATEY, MOJITO & GAURAPO BAR.

This bar is located in the downtown area on Centauro street. Word has spread out: they have the best Mojitos in the world. Outside of the shop and in a repurposed and colorful VW beetle, they serve “Guarapo” a nonalcoholic beverage made from fresh sugarcane juice.

Live bands play upbeat music on a daily basis, from jazz to funk, from blues to reggae or Rock, a great time at Batey’s is guaranteed.

PASITO TUN TUN.

Located between a reggae bar and a Cuban place, Pasito Tun Tun has specialized in preparing a wide range of creative cocktails with a Mexican delicacy: “Mezcal”. It features live music bands with diverse rhythms and options. Prices are accessible and it has a fun and laidback atmosphere.
